Michael Martinez is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist whose work confronts identity from the vantage of a Gay person of color. Working primarily within performance, installation, and new media, Martinez’ art practice centers on articulating the pressures endured by LGBT members of the Latin American diaspora. Challenging convention, Martinez’ portfolio illustrates a need to expand the narrative of the Latino experience within the US and beyond.
A native of the Lone Star State, Michael Martinez has lived, worked, and exhibited in Portland, Oregon, and San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, Martinez’ work has been featured internationally, as part of the April Meetings New Media Festival, in Belgrade, Serbia. Martinez holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Intermedia from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and is currently based in San Antonio, Texas.
